BJP forms panels to prepare for polls

Move will give impetus in taking the people-friendly welfare schemes at the Centre

Chennai: Determined to strategise the ground forces before sounding the poll bugle of taking on the Dravidian majors in the next Assembly election in Tamil Nadu, the BJP is in the process of forming core committees. The aim is to work towards political transformation and social empowerment.

The move will also give further impetus in taking the people-friendly welfare schemes of the BJP-led government at the Centre. “These are people-centric measures and as per the wish of our national president (Amit Shah) we have decided to form separate committees for Swachch Bharat Abhiyan, girl child protection and training centre in the party,” said Tamilisai Soundararajan, the party’s state president.

The senior leader who was among those who attended the recently concluded ‘Mahasampark Abhiyan’ of the party in Bengaluru, says Shah’s speech at the meeting was “really inspiring.” “Not only that, for the first time he had invited 42 of our district presidents to this core committee meeting. This shows he is keen on taking with him the entire rank and file in the party to new heights in the south,” she told this correspondent. Through these committees, the party would disseminate information on the PM Narendra Modi’s schemes and also highlight his good governance.

The BJP has a formidable presence in Karnataka where it won 17 of the 28 LS seats in 2014 but is weak in Kerala, where it failed to open its account. In TN, the party managed to win mere two seats. Also, as per the instruction of Mr Shah, the state unit will soon set in motion the task of establishing party offices in all districts by December 2016 and train party workers as ideologues.
