Special I teams formed to take up investigations in Vijayawada

All the teams will be reporting to their respective ACPs and SHOs will not have any role in the investigation procedure
Vijayawada: Commissioner of police A.B. Venkateswara Rao on Wednesday announced special investigation teams called I-Teams, which will hereafter take up cases registered in the city police stations.
Addressing a press conference Mr Venkateswara Rao said that while the I-Teams will take up the investigation of cases, Station House Officers (SHOs) will look after the maintenance of law and order and other issues.
Giving more information on the strategy, Mr Venkateswara Rao said that as many as ten teams, comprising 40 police personnel, have been formed. "Each team consists of two sub-inspectors and two constables selected after a written test. The ability of drafting, presenting investigation reports, awareness on law were tested through the written test and the top 40 were selected. Three teams have been allotted for the West zone, two for East zone and five teams for the Central Zone," he said.
All the teams will be reporting to their respective ACPs and SHOs will not have any role in the investigation procedure. The ACPs will assign cases to I-Teams, Mr Venkateswara Rao said.
"This would make investigations transparent and quick. It wouldn't be a wonder if the teams file charge sheet within 24 hours after FIR is lodged," the commissioner added.
Cases registered under sections 324, 354, 509, 506, 341, 188, 337, 378, 304A, 420 and others of IPC would be dealt by the I-teams.
