Prisoner’s kids to get higher studies loan
Department is preparing a list of prisoners whose children will need loans across the state
Hyderabad: The Telangana prisons department will soon begin providing loans to children of prisoners who opt to take up higher studies. The department is preparing a list of prisoners whose children will need loans across the state. Around 10 per cent of prisoners will benefit.
“The loans will be interest-free and will be provided from the prison development fund. Providing more work to prisoners who take these loans is also a part of this plan, so that they can repay the loans quickly,” said prisons DG V.K. Singh.
Apart from this, six new petrol pumps to be run by inmates of the open air jail, will be added to the prisons department by the next financial year. Around 40 prisoners will be employed at each petrol bunk, and at least Rs 10 crore per annum with the addition of the new pumps. “Two sites have been finalised by IOC,” Mr Singh said.
