Coimbatore: The Maoists, who were produced in court on Wednesday, refused to sign when they were asked to do so to confirm if the signatures in documents seized from them during police raids were theirs.
Maoists R. Shyna, 42, J. Anup, 31, C. Veeramani alias Easwaran, 60 and C. Kannan, 46, were produced before the court after the end of their custody. As Roopesh has been in the custody of Kerala police in connection with a case there, he was not produced in court. Kannan, who was taken into custody by Aliyar police to enquire on the whereabouts of a youth inducted by him into the extremist movement, was also brought to the court.
When principal district judge, R. Pongiappan asked them for their signatures, as sought by the police in a petition to cross check their signatures in documents seized from them, the four persons refused to sign.
They also gave in writing expressing their unwillingness to put their signatures. The Judge then ordered the police to produce the Maoists in the court on July 15. The Maoists raised slogans against police when they were brought to court.
