Kozhikode: Putting nature above the rest
Ramakrishna Mission school kids plant sapling all over district
Kozhikode: Spreading the message of environment conservation and protection, students of Sree Ramakrishna Mission School, Kozhikode, are busy planting different varieties of star trees in various parts of the district - with a special focus on temple premises.
The district forest department handed over seven sets of 27 saplings each of star trees to the school’s nature club ‘Prithvi’. They planted the first set of trees at Mahavishnu Temple, Mannur, and their last stop was Subramanian Swami Temple, Vengeri. Some 120 students and 60 ex-students are active members of the club. They study each location they pick up for planting the trees.
“Seeing the active participation of our students, the forest department initiated various projects and planting star trees was one among them,” staff-in-charge Ranjith Raj K. G. said.
“Students get an opportunity to work with the forest department. More than planting trees, they keep boards near each sapling carrying its common name, scientific name and medicinal values”.
Students have also been entrusted with the responsibility of 50 Lakshmitharu trees, known for its cancer prevention qualities, at the district pain and palliative care centre.
