I do not operate sand reach: Chinthamaneni Prabhakar
The MLA has been convicted in a case under the SC and ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act, booked in 1995
Rajahmundry: Chinthamaneni Prabhakar, Telugu Desam MLA from Dendulur in West Godavari, has been in the news mostly for the wrong resons. He has been named in 38 cases since 1995, some of which have been disposed of.
A majority of the cases were booked at Pedavegi, Pedapadu, Dendulur and Eluru I and III Town limits in West Godavari. Topping the list are cases related to SC and ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act and assaulting officials. The MLA has been convicted in a case under the SC and ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act, booked in 1995.
Responding to Wednesday’s incident, Mr Prabhakar said, “There was no issue at all. I went there when Dwcra women from Vijayarai informed me that Musunuru tahsildar Vanajakshi was stopping them from mining sand, saying that they were taking sand from within Krishna district limits. I am not involved in the day-to-day functioning of the sand reach.”
He said that he should not have gone to the sand reach but should have send his men himself ‘to deal with the situation.’ “I am genuine. Our sand reach is located in about 200 acres of which only 13 acres come under Krishna district limits. The revenue official was making money by allowing quarrying of the sand illegally. As Dwcra women are not allowing outsiders to mine the sand officially allotted to them, the official is unable to digest it and tried to make an issue out of it. That sand reach is being run in a very transparent manner and there is no chance for anyone, including me, to make money illegally. I went to the reach only to express solidarity to the Dwcra women,” the MLA said.
