Hyderabad High Court to hear PIL on strike

The Bench stated that it would hear the case on Thursday
Hyderabad: A division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice S.V. Bhatt of the Hyderabad High Court will hear a PIL on Thursday challenging the inaction of the GHMC in removal of garbage in the city for the last five days.
Advocate B. Rajeswari moved the PIL stating that a large amount of garbage had piled up not only on either side of the roads but also on the roads due to GHMC’s failure to remove garbage since the last few days.
Mr Sarasani Satyam Reddy, senior counsel appearing for the petitioner, made a mention on Wednesday that due to the ongoing strike of garbage cleaning workers in the city, huge quantities of garbage had piled up in several parts of the city.
He said there was imminent threat to the health of citizens and a likelihood of spread of infectious diseases as the garbage collection points were overflowing and the GHMC had failed to discharge its statutory duties as mandated by Section 480 of the GHMC Act, 1955.
He submitted that the piled up garbage and foul smell emanating from them were causing severe hardships to citizens and also causing hurdles for Muslims in offering prayers during Ramzan. The Bench stated that it would hear the case on Thursday.
