Victim said 35 people abused her after parents’ consent
Kozhikode: Ten people who sexually abused a 13-year-old girl at Kottackal were arrested on Wednesday. The police had on Tuesday held her mother and step-father for pushing the girl into flesh trade.
“According to the girl, she was forced into the trade by the parents one-and-a-half-years back and 35 persons had abused her,” said an official of the social justice department. She was even brought to Ooty and the parents got up to Rs 3,000 from the customers. During counselling, her sister, 11, and brother, 8, said that they too were abused by their elder brother, 18. The couple has seven children, including two from the woman’s earlier marriage. Except the eldest daughter, 24, all others were put up in a one-room house at Kottakkal.
The eldest brother had studied up to Class IV after which he did odd jobs. He was a former inmate at Children’s home in Thavanoor after being caught in a theft case. He told social workers that his mother had encouraged him to indulge in theft and that he had no sentiments towards his sisters. The family frequently changed residence following altercation with the locals. The mother told the police that she was into prostitution.
The two girls did not attend classes regularly. “They did not know how to write Malayalam,” said Childline district coordinator, Anvar Karakkadan. Tirur inspector, Mohammed Haneefa Musliar, said sections of POCSO Act, IPC and Juvenile Justice Act had been slapped on the eldest brother. Currently, all the kids are in various government shelters.
