Police probe 'mischievous' WhatsApp message on Salman Khan

The message states that the actor thinks his film will do well without the support of his Muslim fans

Mumbai: Police are probing the case of a ‘mischievous and false’ message about Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, circulating on popular social networking platform WhatsApp.

A complaint in this regard was received on behalf of the 49-year-old actor, whose next film "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" is slated to hit theatres on July 17, more than a week ago, police said today.

According to reports a screenshot of the messaged has been doing the rounds on the instant messaging app. The screenshot shows the actor saying the movie can be successful without the support of his ‘Muslim’ fans. The picture has been used by a news channel. However it appears to have been morphed.

The actor even denied making such remarks in a statement.

"A written complaint was given more than a week ago by Khan's manager alleging that someone tried to besmirch Khan's reputation by circulating a false and mischievous post about him on WhatsApp," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Dhananjay Kulkarni.

The case, in which no one has been arrested till now, is being probed by Cyber Crime wing of Crime Branch. Police declined to divulge the content of the post.

Investigations are on but no FIR has been registered yet, said Kulkarni.
