YSRC loses MLC polls in Kurnool
Bhuma Nagi Reddy and other MLAs had concentrated on protecting their vote but failed
Anantapur/Ongole: In a major jolt, the YSRC lost the MLC elections from the local bodies constituency in both districts of Kurnool. The party also lost the elections in Prakasam, where it had “boycotted” the election.
In Kurnool district, the Telugu Desam’s Silpa Chakrapani Reddy won by 146 votes. Of the 1,080 votes polled, Mr Chakrapani Reddy got 610 and YSRC’s Venkateswar Reddy, 464. Two independents got one vote each.
The YSRC had majority MPTCs and ZPTCs and secured the support of the Congress but the TD succeeded in luring them to its side. Deputy Chief Minister K.E. Krishnamurthy and his brother K.E. Prabhakar secured their support at mandal-level meetings.
Bhuma Nagi Reddy and other MLAs had concentrated on protecting their vote but failed. In Prakasam, the Telugu Desam’s Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy won with a 711-vote majority. He secured 724, against 13 for his rival YSRC candidate Atla China Venkata Reddy.
Returning officer Dr M. Hari Jawaharlal declared 17 votes invalid. As per instructions of the High Court, one vote was kept in the sealed cover and not counted.
