What’s our deadline for BBMP elections: Karnataka government to Supreme Court
BELAGAVI: The state government plans to approach the Supreme Court to seek a clarification on the verdict pronounced on July 3, extending the deadline for elections to BBMP by eight weeks, in addition to an amendment proposed to split the city civic body.
While disposing off a special leave petition (SLP), a bench headed by Chief Justice H.L. Dattu had granted eight weeks time to hold BBMP polls.
Now, the state government plans to seek clarity on whether time granted by the apex court commences from the date of its judgment or the earlier deadline of August 5 set by the same court.
When contacted, Mr K N Panindra, counsel for the state election commission (SEC) however said: “I have given my opinion to the SEC that it could go ahead and hold the elections. There is clarity in the order, so the SEC must complete the process of conduction elections before August 28, 2015.”
