Unicharm India begins production
Nellore: In a grand ceremony held here on Tuesday, Mr Seiji Baba, Consul General of Japan, in Chennai, formally inaugurated the Unicharm India's new production plant and declared it inaugurated. Unicharm India is a wholly-owned subsidiary of M/s Unicharm Corporation, a Japanese manufacturing company of health & hygiene products.
Mr Takahisa Takahara, President & CEO, Unicharm Corporation, Mr Yukihiro Kimura, Managing Director, Unicharm India, Mr Koichi Obara, President, Media Corporation, and Mr. Takayoshi Sato, President, SATO Facilities were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Seiji Baba said, "I am happy to inaugurate Unicharm's new plant, and wish them "all the best"." Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Takahisa Takahara said that as part of their strategy to expand business in India, they preferred to set up plant in Sri City because of various advantages.
"First and foremost, Sri City offers world class infrastructure facilities. Its proximity to international air and sea ports will greatly facilitate our imports and exports. Availability of extensive land at Sri City is an additional advantage for expanding our plant in phases," he added.
Complimenting the Unicharm, Mr Ravindra Sannareddy, managing director, Sri City said that a production plant of this scale will certainly create plenty of jobs to the local people. "In India, of late, hygiene industry is experiencing an unprecedented growth as hygiene products are being adopted into the lifestyle of the masses. With its new plant becoming operational, I am sure, Unicharm through its product differentiation, entrenched distribution network and innovative marketing strategies will lead the market share in India too," he added.
Mr Kimura thanked Sri City for extending excellent support and solicited support of all the associated business partners to make Unicharm "number one" in Indian market. The Sri City plant, which is the second production unit of Unicharm in India, was built in a 40-acre plot. During the initial phase, it will offer jobs for around 150 persons, with a preference to women workers. In the final phase of operation its job potential will increase considerably.
In 2008, Unicharm set up its local head office at Gurgaon and also a production facility at Majrakath in Rajasthan. The range of products includes Feminine Napkins, Baby Diapers and Adult Incontinence.
