Muddy waters welcome devotees in Khammam

The approach road here is also completely broken at places
Khammam: It will be almost impossible to bathe in four of the eight Pushkar ghats in Khammam district during the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu. Recent floods have deposited a large amount of mud at the ghats, which, sources say, have been built at the wrong places.
They also point out that it is difficult for women pilgrims to change at the ghats due to a limited number of changing rooms.
The depth at the Chinaravigudem Pushkar ghat under Manuguru mandal is 12 feet and there is lot of mud between the concrete steps and the water, making it almost impossible to bathe here.
The government had sanctioned Rs 95 lakh for this ghat and Rs 12 lakh for the approach road, work for which is still incomplete.
In fact, minister for roads and buildings T. Nageswara Rao also found fault with the selection of the place for the Pushkar ghat.
Pilgrims also cannot take a dip at the Venkatapuram Pushkar ghat as the Godavari flows a kilometer from the ghat, which has been built at a cost of Rs 80 lakh. It is impossible to traverse the mud to reach the water.
The approach road here is also completely broken at places. Moreover, trenches have been dug at the parking area and it is not possible to park vehicles there. Local youth Mr P. Suresh said that engineers had selected the wrong place for the ghat. “The money spent on the Pushkar ghat was wasted,” he observed.
