Exhibition on RK Laxman’s cartoons kicks off
THRISSUR: R K Laxman’s common man’s travails will stir more thoughts and laughs again in the city!
An exhibition of cartoons by renowned cartoonist Rasipuram Krishnaswami Iyer Laxman, believed to be for the first time in Thrissur, has begun at the Lalitha Kala Akademy.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Kerala Lalitha Kala Akademi Chairman Prof Katoor Narayanan Pillai.
The Akademi had exhibited the cartoons in February at Vyloppalli Samskrithi Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram.
The 40 cartoons throwing light on the plight of the common man has been displayed at the Chithrashala Art gallery.
The exhibition is a tribute to the legend whose strokes spoke volumes to the common man.
The solo sketches of Karl Marx, Indira Gandhi and Mahatma Gandhi have his signatures on them.
While political blame games and corruption thrive in the state, the posture of Lakshman’s common man, tight-lipped, serving as a mute witness, as depicted in his cartoons, is a mirror to society.
Although Laxman left this world in January 2015, his common man still haunts many. The exhibition will last till July 11.
