Coimbatore: More than 100 persons gheraoed the office of assistant director of town panchayat at Race Course after they were not interviewed for the post of driver announced by the department.
Several people had arrived from across Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode and other places for the interview. “The officials simply asked us to affix our signature in a register and leave as they claimed that there was a vacancy for only one post, which had been filled,” said R. Kumar.
“If they had announced clearly that recruitment is only for a single vacancy, then so many of us wouldn’t have come spending our hard earned money and valuable time. The interview called for was just an eyewash as the officials seem to have already fixed the candidate,” said another protester. They withdrew their protest after the Race Course police arrived and pacified them.
