All-party meeting on stray dogs tomorrow in Kerala
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government will call an all-party meeting here on Thursday to evolve a consensus on killing stray dogs that pose a threat to human beings.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the Assembly on Tuesday that though there were no legal hurdles in killing stray dogs that pose a danger to human beings, the strong resentment of some sections against this can’t be totally ignored. Hence, a political consensus was required on the matter.
The matter would be discussed in an all-party meeting already convened to discuss various issues, he said while replying to a calling attention motion notice given by government chief whip Thomas Unniyadan.
He also said that sufficient anti-rabies vaccines and medicines will be ensured in all hospitals. Facilities for treatment will also be ensured at government hospitals.
24-hour post-mortem
Home minister Ramesh Chennithala informed the Assembly that a facility for performing post-mortem examination round the clock will be introduced in the state within a month. N. A. Nellikunnu of the IUML who raised the matter lamented that though he had raised the matter seven times in the House, the assurances still remained on paper.
Police verification

Though police verification reports have to be issued within 20 days as per the Right to Service Act, it is getting delayed in many cases owing to change of address of the applicant or cases pending.
