Roshan Basheer is thrilled with the wonderful reception of his film Papanasam, the Tamil remake of the hit film Drishyam, and is currently shooting for his second Telugu movie, which is expected to release next month. He has yet another Tamil project, Kubera Rashi directed by Radhakrishnan, in the pipeline.
Speaking about Papanasam, he quickly becomes vocal about his luck at having worked with a legend like Kamal Hassan. “I didn’t have any combination scenes with Kamal sir on screen, but being on the sets with him was wonderful.”
“He gave me a lot of insights on how to choose films and roles, how to approach a character, how to improve my acting skills and so on. It is an invaluable experience and I feel lucky to have been part of a film with someone as great as him, even in a small role. Papanasam has been reaping rave reviews and I believe it is doing as well as (if not better than) Drishyam and my role itself has grabbed a few eyeballs. Everyone I know who watched the movie told me that I have performed significantly better in this film and that my acting skills have improved considerably. Also, unlike during Drishyam, I’m no longer chubby. I have become much more conscious of my physique of late, and this reflects in the movie,” says Roshan.
Referring to Kubera Rashi, in which he plays the lead role, he says, “The movie is based on a bank robbery and I play a character who gets stuck in the whole mess without even realising his role in the whole scheme of things. Abhirami Suresh will play the female lead in the movie. It’s a completely different type of movie and is expected to release sometime around September.”
Roshan’s Telugu movie, Colombus, on the other hand, is a typical love story. “I play one of the leads in this film as well. The film is being shot at Hyderabad right now. It is directed by Ramesh Samala and Sumanth Ashwin, Seerat Kapoor and Mishti Chakraborty will play the other lead roles. We are almost done with the shoot and the film should release next month,” adds Roshan.
