Andhra University second among state universities
Also bagged the 8th spot among all universities in India
Visakhapatnam: After bifurcation, AP has been making strides in Higher Education. As a result, Andhra University (AU) has been ranked 2nd among state universities and 8th among all universities in India by India Today Group-Nielsen Survey.
Andhra University has also bagged the 8th spot among all universities in India, including state, central and deemed universities. The India Today-Nielsen rankings methodology assigns 50 pc weightage to factual data, while the remaining 50 pc weightage is assigned to perceptual data. Thus, even though AU was only second to Delhi University, the table-topper in terms of factual data, it claimed the 8th spot due to a lower perceptual score.
The strong performance in terms of factual data highlights the university’s quality in terms of faculty, academic inputs and research publications. However, plans are underway to improve AU’s perception. A project to “Reposi-tion Andhra University (AU) among top 50 in the World” has been conceived and instituted by the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board in partnership with the Higher Education Department.
The aim of the project is to propel AU into international rankings and explore potential collaboration with top-ranking foreign universities. AU was provided the necessary assistance to reach out to Times Higher Education and QS Rankings to submit data to international rankings for the first time. Furthermore, all major stakeholders on the campus were interviewed and surveyed to prepare an action-plan to transform AU into a top-ranking international university. On the collaborations front, a partnership with National University of Singapore as suggested by Ambassador-at-large for the Government of Singapore Gopinath Pillai is being deliberated.
