SFI protests in Kozhikode turn violent
KOZHIKODE: The SFI march to the DDE office in Kozhikode in protest against the delay in the distribution of school textbooks turned violent on Monday resulting in injuries to four policemen and many SFI activists who were admitted to hospital.
Vehicular traffic in the city was disrupted for one hour as police and the agitators clashed in the streets.
When a section of protesters tried to forcibly remove the police barricade to enter the DDE office, the police caned them and used water cannons and teargas to disburse them.
The march was taken out by the students, including a large number of girls, around 12 noon.
A big contingent of police led by ACPs A.J. Babu and Josey Cherian was on duty. After the lathicharge, the students came back and attacked the police vehicles.
The strikers led by SFI district secretary K. Aswanth later staged a dharna on the road.
