UP chief secretary Alok Ranjan eats inside temple, Rs 7.5 lakh fine on priests
A court order of 2004 bans eating anything inside the restricted area of the world-renowned temple
Lucknow: The management of the famous Bankey Bihari temple in Vrindavan has slapped a fine of Rs 7.5 lakhs on two priests who had served the ‘prasad’ to UP chief secretary Alok Ranjan , during his visit last week.
A court order of 2004 bans eating anything inside the restricted area of the world-renowned temple. The CCTV footage, which was telecast on local TV channels, shows the chief secretary was having ‘prasad’ along with 74 other persons inside the temple.
Mr Ranjan had visited the holy town last week to review the various developmental projects in the area. Nand Kishore Upmanyu, president of the temple committee, said, “In order to maintain cleanliness, a civil judge had passed an order in 2004, restricting eating of ‘prasad’ inside the temple. We will not target those who were eating as they may not be aware of the rules.”
