‘Golden’ film director wins gold

Film Bangaru Telangana development activities only have in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: At a time when Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are at loggerheads, a young filmmaker from Tenali, M. Suresh Bhardwaj, has made a short film about Telangana, urging the newly formed state to turn into a “golden state”.

Produced by Tenali Talkies, Bangaru Telangana was completely shot in Tenali and shows how development is needed in all parts of the state, and not just in Hyderabad. The film won an award under the Best Short Film category at the Social Development Film Festival India (SDFFI).

Suresh, a computer engineering graduate, closely followed the Telangana statehood movement and was particularly saddened when a fellow youth, Venugopal Reddy, committed suicide. While students and youth in large numbers sacrificed everything for Telangana during the agitation, he believes that development in the new state is being seen only in Hyderabad, with the rest of the state forgotten.

Focusing his film on the strengths that the youth of the state have, Suresh says Bangaru Telangana asserts the need to work with them. With 11 universities and a number of software and IT companies and industries in Hyderabad, he believes that the government has centralised development to the city, comparing it with “gold”.

Suresh completed his 10-minute film with the help of his friends — Clement and B.J. Daniel as cameramen, background music by S.K. Baji, and other friends acting in various roles. This helped him keep the budget to a minimal Rs 45,000. Suresh is all set to direct two more movies, one of which is a sci-fi thriller.
