Here’s our guide on how to get the Wimbledon fashion look right
It’s that time of the year where everyone’s eyes are glued to their TV screens, either cheering on Andy Murray, or applauding Serena Williams. Yes, it is Wimbledon season, and that’s what everyone is talking about.
Fashion at Wimbledon is a simplistically complicated art. For the players, it translates to an all white palette, in accordance with a rule that has been followed for decades by all tennis associations originating from the All England’s Club. For the female players, the standard attire is a short white skirt or a ‘skort’, with a white racerback top. The male players wear white slacks and a white sports t-shirt, sometimes with a cardigan over it. White tennis shoes are a must for all players, and some make use of caps, and half-caps to protect themselves from the sun, while also looking stylish.
If you are lucky and you are attending the Wimbledon, then what to wear to the matches is extremely vital, as the dress code is mostly formal or semi formal. As seen on celebrities like Kate Middleton and Victoria Beckham, mid-length dresses are very popular when paired with a pair of heels and a statement making clutch. For men, a nice well tailored and well fitting suit is ideal. The right pair of sunglasses is also extremely fashionable, and is worn by many spectators at the Wimbledon. Styles like the cat eye are making a huge comeback.
“Wimbledon fashion has been extremely interesting mainly because of its eye catching and also due to the strict policy of the club. An all-white sporty and practical ensemble can just about have those quirky accents we are used to by now. The fashion world awaits these eye candies,” says designer Anjali Sharma.
Flowing skirts, floral printed sundresses, blazers with formal shirts, and straight cut pants are a few of the styles that are appropriate wear for Wimbledon. Sling bags make the perfect accessory to your outfit as they are easy to carry around. As for footwear, a pair of comfortable heels will really put an outfit together, or you can even opt for a nice pair of strappy flats. Designer Raj Shroff says, “A nice tailored jacket with a pencil skirt would be ideal. Keeping fabrics cotton blended would be a good choice.”
