Process to regularise encroached land initiated in Telangana

The government had issued GOs 58 and 59 in December 2014 for LRS and had sought applications till March

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has finally initiated the process of regularising encroached government lands under residential occupation under the “payment category”.

Like the free category regularisation, the payment category regularisation pattas will also be issued in the name of a woman in the household.

Though applications were called for the LRS during January-February this year, there had been no progress.

The government had issued GOs 58 and 59 in December 2014 for LRS and had sought applications till March.

GO 58 was meant for regularisation under “free category” for the poor for up to 125 sq. yards, and GO 59 was meant for others under “payment category”.

The government had processed nearly two lakh under GO 58 applications and had issued pattas for about 75,000 poor on June 2.

However, till date, it had not touched the 30,000 applications received under payment category. These applicants were asked to deposit 25 per cent of the land’s market value at the time of the application and the rest was to be paid in three installments. However, the second installment was not called for, putting the applicants in a fix.

Also, 16,915 applications under free category were converted into payment category later after officials, during verification, found that the applicants were not from BPL families.

With this, the total applications pending under payment category increased to 46,196.

These applicants were supposed to pay their second installment by April 15. However, the government kept the regularisation scheme on hold and didn’t receive the second installment.

The government has now decided to take up ground verification of these applications to determine their eligibility.

The government has decided to receive the second installment from these applicants till August 31, the third by September 30 and the fourth by November 15. Balance arrears, if any, will have to be paid as a final installment by December 31.
