Ooty: Schoolgirl shows the way on wearing helmet
She takes helmet rule seriously and never leaves home without it
Ooty: Most two-wheeler and pillion riders are averse to the idea of wearing helmets and look for ways to evade complying with the new mandatory law that has come into force. But a class 11 student from a school in Ooty is setting an example by wearing the helmet as a pillion rider every time she sits on her father's two-wheeler.
Pillion riders are the worst culprits in evading the mandatory law lending to a tough time for the cops who have been on their toes trying to book the offenders.
A.Maria Sweda, a class 11 student at St. Hilda’s school here, is not eligible for a driving license but never forgets to wear her helmet each time she steps out for a ride with her father Satish Abudoss on his two-wheeler.
“I came to know about the new helmet wearing rule for two-wheeler riders and pillion riders. I realised it was for the safety of the riders,” she said. She is happy wearing the helmet or holding it while strolling around during her shopping sojourns.
“Quite a few children like me do go for pillion rides. It is good if they too take to helmet culture and prove themselves that they respect the law of the land and lead by example,” she said.
