Cyberabad police nabs 31 bike racers
Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police arrested 31 youngsters for allegedly racing bikes at Gandipet on Sunday morning. Out of them 21 are minors.
Only two riders had driving licences. Some had come with new bikes. Their parents were called for counselling and the bikes were seized.
The Osmansagar Lake police patrol observed that a gang of youngsters were shouting and racing bikes on the bund road at around 7.30 am.
The police closed both ways and nabbed the racers. “Most minors who do not own the vehicles had borrowed the bikes of their uncles or elder brothers. Some minor own bikes. We do not understand why parents buy bikes for them even before they get driving license,” said a higher official from Cyberabad.
The police called the owners of the bikes and parents to warn them.
“The racers were booked under IPC and MV Act for driving bikes without a license and for rash driving,” said an official.
Morning walkers and local residents have been facing trouble from youngsters who come to the bund road for racing every week.
Earlier, the police had busted many racing gangs and had warned them. However, they continued to come to the area in the early morning hours.
Now a special force has been deployed around the lake by Cyberabad police commissioner C.V. Anand.
The Osmansagar Lake police patrol would focus on preventing encroachments, illegal fishing, suicides, check pollution, eve-teasing, chain snatchings, bike racings and gambling in the area.
