Chandrababu Naidu blamed for suicide of a farmer in Anantapur
The farmer, traumatised with the high debts took the extreme step and consumed pesticide at bank premises
Anantapur: Congress cadres lodged a complaint against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu making him responsible for the suicide of a farmer at Uravakonda Syndicate Bank in the district on Sunday.
Congress activists led by Anantapur DCC president Kota Satyanarayana staged a protest at Uravakonda police station and lodged a complaint against the CM for cheating farmers in the name of waiver of crop loans.
It may be noted that a farmer Kodandarama Reddy committed suicide by consuming pesticide on Syndicate Bank premises in Uravakonda two days ago after the bankers refused to return his pattadar passbook that was in the name of his mother. The farmer, traumatised with the high debts took the extreme step and consumed pesticide at bank premises.
District Congress Committee president Kota Satyanarayana accused the Chief Minister of false promises that were forcing farmers to take the extreme step. "We lodged a complaint with Uravakonda police against Mr Naidu who should be made responsible for the suicide of a farmer," Mr Satyanarayana said.
Meanwhile, Anantapur RDO Hussain Saheb, who was probing the death assured Rs 5 lakh compensation from the state government. Bereaved family members would be given Rs 5 lakh compensation soon.
