Burial site in danger due to encroachment near Bon Cheruvu lake
Hyderabad: A megalithic burial site near the Bon Cheruvu lake is threatened by encroachments.
While it is a protected site as per the department of archaeology and museums, civic authorities are not bothered about the constructions near it, and it might disappear soon if preventive measures aren’t taken, say heritage conservation activists.
“Right now the site lies in the middle of a proposed construction site. Once completed, they might not allow the public to visit the site. The burial site lies amidst rubble. The surrounding area is filled with construction rubble and the typical blue sheets have been erected all around,” said a resident.
“What is more worrying is that there is no proposed blue-print designed for protection of the site,” the resident said.
“The last time we visited it, it appeared to be disappearing due to the encroachments around it. The department of archaeology should take a team and visit the site, and fence it,” said Ms Anuradha Reddy, heritage activist and INTACH co-convener.
