Tune in: Melody matters
Juhi Chawla grew up listening to the songs that her family tuned in to on the radio — the repertoire of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle as well as Kishore Kumar. There was also the Sholay soundtrack, which she recalls playing over and over, with Jab Tak Hai Jaan being her favourite track.
Today, she loves listening to music from the 80s and 90s as well as turning on the radio to stay abreast with current chartbusters. In a chat with us, Juhi talks about her musical preferences:
The song on repeat on my iPod: Tune Mari Entriyan from Gunday.
If I had to put together a soundtrack for my life, the songs on it would be:
- Maine Socha Na Tha from Yes Boss — It reminds me of my school days when I never dreamed that I’d be a movie star some day.
- Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai from Yes Boss — Because you always want just a little more and this rings true for everybody)
- Shukriya Meherebani Karam from Duplicate — Now that I’m in a different phase of my life, I look back and say a big thank you to all the people who thought I could do it.
- Zindagi Ka Safar from Safar.
- Aa Chal Ke Tujhe Main Leken Chalu by Kishoreda — When I was very, very broken, I started following a guru whose courses I would attend. He would teach us how to think positive and to practise it in life, so that you can live beyond whatever sadness you are going through. And he sang this song to us, over which I just wept. Ever since then, I always try to remember it and think of how life moves on and so should you.
The one band/musician I wish I could have a private concert from:
Now, sadly, he is no more, so there is no chance he could do a private concert for me. But Michael Jackson’s was the most mind-blowing concert that I have ever been to, and I am yet to see anyone surpass it!
