Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's constituency to get civic boost
Chennai: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Saturday assumed office as R K Nagar MLA at a low-key function in the chamber of Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal. Party cadres and functionaries thronged the secretariat to greet her.
With Jayalalithaa becoming a legislator again, secretariat sources hinted at commencement of Assembly session next month. Meanwhile, metro water and Chennai corporation have started identifying long pending civic issues pertaining to her constituency. “The constituency that elected the Chief Minister will see a makeover in next three months,” a top official said.
A top official said distribution of mixies and grinders that were put on hold due to the model code of conduct would be distributed in a phased manner. A permanent solution would be found to issues pertaining to drinking water shortage and contamination of groundwater by oil at Tondiarpet.
The Chennai corporation and metro water had already filled the vacancies of sanitary workers to reduce public complaints from the constituency and this trend will continue, a metro water engineer said.
