Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala University syndicate member S. Krishnakumar, the husband of Mahila Congress president Bindhu Krishna, was suspended on Saturday for a day following the commotion over the denial of guest house rooms to syndicate members.
The university had stopped allotting rooms for syndicate members as it had caused revenue loss to it. However, the syndicate meeting on May 6 had decided to restore rooms to them. Pro- Vice-Chancellor N. Veeramanikandan had submitted his dissent over the decision.
Rooms were not allotted to the syndicate members even afterwards as the rent is yet to be decided.
Mr Krishnakumar had occupied the chair of the Vice- Chancellor, who was to preside over the meeting, when the syndicate meeting started in the morning.
Following this, Mr P.K. Radhakrishnan, VC, who reached the venue, left the hall after adjourning the meeting. Though he returned after ten minutes, Mr Krishakumar did not vacate the chair.
Though he was repeatedly asked to leave the chair, he did not relent. Following this, the VC suspended him.
However, Mr Krishnakumar refused to leave the hall and the development security officials were asked to oust him. They and even the police failed to move him out.
The VC later apprised Governor P. Sathasivam, who is the chancellor of the university, and Education Minister P. K. Abdu Rabb, who is the Pro-Chancellor, of the developments.
Later, the university said in a statement that as there were 87 main agendas and over 200 other agendas during the meeting, it would take time to resolve all the issues.
