Hussainsagar lake cleaning stalled
Hyderabad: The repairing of Hussainsagar sluices have come to a halt after the High Court stayed the National Green Tribunal order that objected to the dewatering of the tank.
The government, keeping in mind GHMC elections, is not touching the lake, fearing criticism from the opposition during the election campaign.
The Kukatpally drain diversion will also get delayed as the sewerage board has not yet completed laying of the main pipeline at Kavadiguda.
The Hyderabad traffic team has not given permission to block the road. In the name of repair the weirs near Lumbini Park and 12 sluices near Sailing Club annexes were deepened using heavy vehicles to dig on the tank bed in order to let out the water. However, the repairs on the sluices can be carried out only when water level decreases which is not possible during monsoons.
Government sources said there are no further orders on carrying out any activity on Hussainsagar, except the ongoing diversion of the Kukatpally nala.
Earlier, the government thought of installing five 125 HP motors to pump out the water. Before summer officials deepened the sluices to drain out as much water as possible.
The Metropolitian Sewerage Board is yet to get permission from the traffic police on cutting the Kavadiguda stretch to install the main pipeline to divert Kukatpally waste.
After the Kavadiguda road is cut the drain will enter Hussainsagar surplus drain and all the waste will flow through Ashoknagar, Baghlingampally, Vidhyanagar and finally enter the Amberpet sewerage treatment plant and from there it will go to the Musi river.
