High-level meet called to discuss Government Medical College clash
Kozhikode: The Government Medical College authorities here have decided to convene high-level meetings on issues that have led to clashes between SFI activists and “independents” last week.
The decision was taken after the college’s internal inquiry committee headed by Dr Thomas Mathew submitted its report on Saturday.
Principal Dr P. V. Narayanan said a high-level meeting of the faculty would be held on Monday followed by a meeting of Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) on Tuesday.
Besides, a permanent committee, comprising the principal, representatives of students, teachers, police and political parties will be formed to hold monthly sittings to take stock of the situation.
“Our attempt is to find a permanent solution to the issues that students face on the campus,” the principal said.
Clashes last week have left many medicos injured, leading to the arrest of three students.
It is learned that the inquiry committee was unable to record the opinion of many students belonging to the ‘independents’ as they had left the campus following Monday’s clashes.
Many have also raised concern about the involvement of outsiders whenever issues break out.
