Cash-for-vote scam: Fresh notice to Sandra Venkata Veeraiah

MLA to appear before ACB tomorrow; PAs of Revanth also summoned
Hyderabad: The Telangana state Anti-Corruption Bureau on Saturday served a fresh notice on Telugu Desam legislator Sandra Venkata Veeraiah in connection with the cash-for-vote scam, asking him to appear for interrogation by Monday. Mr Veeraiah had earlier written to the ACB that he was ready for questioning. He had previously said that he was undergoing medical treatment and had stayed away from questioning despite a notice issued on June 19.
“The MLA has been asked to appear before the ACB officials here on July 6 for questioning with regard to the cash-for-vote case,” sources in the agency said. Mr Veeraiah, who was in Khammam when the notice was issued, said that he would appear before the ACB on Monday.
The ACB also served notice on TD leader Jimmy Babu who had introduced Mathaiah Jerusalem to nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson. Sources said his role came up during the interrogation of other accused. The ACB has also served notice to four personal assistants of TD MLA A. Revanth Reddy.
Mr Veeraiah’s name cropped up during investigations into the involvement of Mr Revanth Reddy and two others in the cash-for-vote scam. The ACB had earlier served a notice to him under Section 160 of the CrPC to appear before it as a witness in the case.
It is being alleged that Mr Veeraiah had initially contacted Bishop Harry Sebastian, an accused in the scam, to deal with Mr Stephenson. Mr Veeraiah did not appear before the ACB after that notice saying that he is undergoing treatment for pain in spine and right leg. On Wednesday, when Mr Revanth Reddy was granted bail by the HC, Mr Veeraiah wrote to the ACB that he was willing to appear before the agency for questioning.
