BENGALURU: The Uber cabs is yet again in the news for wrong reasons. A woman passenger has lodged a formal police complaint accusing the driver of misconduct, verbal abuse and taking a different route. The incident was reported from Jananbharthi police station limits on Friday night.

The complainant, identified as Roopasri a resident of Electronics City, had booked the Uber cab online to visit her mother residing in Nagarbhavi. The accused driver has been identified as Suresh.

According to the police, soon after booking she got the driver’s details. The driver, Suresh, picked her along with her child from her residence in Electronics City. The alleged harassment began when Suresh took different route to Nagarbhavi which was unknown to the complainant. Upon noticing that Suresh was deviating from the route she knew, Roopasri asked the driver to take the route she was familiar with.

But Suresh ignored Roopasri’s pleas and continued driving. When the complainant became uneasy and pestered Suresh, he allegedly started abusing her. Aghast at the attitude, Roopasri, waited to reach Nagarbhavi. But even there while she was getting out of the cab Suresh abused her.

This caught the attention of the victim’s family members and they reprimanded the driver. This drew the attention of passersby and the sensing trouble Suresh fled the spot.

Roopasri immediately called the police control room and lodged a complaint following which the Jnanbharthi police took up the case. In her complaint, Roopasri alleged, “He used the phone and pretended to hurl abuses at someone, but it was intended for me.” The Jnanabharati police are on the lookout for the accused driver. The driver has been booked under non-cognizable remand (NCR) by the police.
