Jwala Gutta and her doubles partner Ashwini Ponnappa were excluded from TOP scheme

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to include badminton players Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa in the Centre’s Target Olympic Podium (TOP) scheme.
In a letter sent to Mr Modi, he wrote: “The badminton pair has recently won Canada Open and brought laurels to the country. It came to my notice that they were not included in the TOP scheme. Please include them at the earliest as I believe that they have better prospects to win medals for India in Olympics.”
The Centre had in April 2015 selected 45 athletes as potential medal winners at next year’s Rio Olympics and has been providing strong support to them for preparation for the mega event.
