SAI case: SIT takes fresh statements
ALAPPUZHA: The Special Investigation Team set up to look into the suicide pact of four SAI athletes at Punnamada, in which one lost her life, has started collecting fresh statements from the parents and athletes following the DGP’s instructions.
The parents and SAI action council had alleged that the SIT was trying to sabotage the investigation. Anil Bose, chairman, action council, said that the parents of the athletes had been asked to be present at the DySP office for giving fresh statements. The parents had met the Chief Minister, Home Minister and DGP demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.
“We have no faith in the SIT as the investigators have already given a clean chit to the seniors who were accused of harassment and ragging by the disgruntled athletes,” he said, adding that an order from the director-general of SAI had been received the other day allowing three athletes to continue their education at the Punnanada centre.
Earlier in June, the action council had flayed the transfer of Pathasarathy Pillai, Crime Branch DySP, who was investigating into the case. Later the distinct police chief had clarified that the transfer was a routine process.
Mr Shajahan, newly-appointed DySP, decided to take fresh statements from parents. In the preliminary investigation report submitted to the district police chief on June 2, the CB had said that no evidence had been found to register a case against the seniors on the charge of abetment of suicide.
