Owner struggles to get back his Audi
Chennai: A day after the police recovered a stolen luxury SUV, abandoned and stuck in the sands of Kovalam beach near here, the car owner said he was struggling to get the vehicle back.D. Williams, the owner of the Audi Q3, produced evidence to claim the car, which was now in the custody of Kelambakkam police station in Kancheepuram district police limits. “I am asked to go to Kanathur police station within Chennai police’s limits to lodge a complaint as it went missing in that station’s jurisdiction on ECR on Wednesday night.
The insurance company has promised to look into it and I am expecting their visit to inspect the car soon. I believe that the car is damaged,” he said when this newspaper contacted him. He said that his brother- in-law got out of the car keeping the key inside the vehicle on ECR near MGM on Wednesday night, when somebody had driven it away. He and other family members searched for the car that night.
“When we went to Kanathur police station to lodge a complaint we received a call from Kelambakkam station saying that the car was with them. So now we will have to lodge the complaint with the Kanathur station to complete the formalities to get back the car,” he said. The unregistered Audi Q3, a compact SUV, which was inching into the seawater was pulled back by police with the help of local fishermen and an earth mover on Thursday morning.
Moorthy Meghavan, who manages a surfing school at Kovalam, told DC he saw the car and a bike racing with each other on the sands at night.“Whoever was racing the car at the beach had damaged it by hitting against rocky terrain,” the police said.The Kelambakkam police said they would hand over the property to the RDO for further action, as it was a stolen vehicle and found abandoned. The RDO, when contacted by DC, said he had not received the communication from police yet.
