Nims doctors to get aggressive on arrears

Full recovery is difficult as the debts have been piling up since a long time
Hyderabad: The debt tangle of the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences seems to be never ending as Rs 28 crore is still pending with the Centre and state agencies. The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation owes Rs 12 crore while the Central Government Health Scheme owes Rs 16 crore to the hospital.
NIMS director Dr Narendranath explained, “The debt continues but they are releasing a substantial amount every three months. Full recovery is difficult as the debts have been piling up since a long time. But we have streamlined the system and payments for fresh cases have to be made within six to eight months.”
The issue with both the government agencies is that the old dues have not been properly recorded and papers not processed properly. Due to this, the files have been pending for too long.
But with patients from two insurance companies coming regularly, the hospital is confident that the burden will be sorted out. A senior officer explained, “With so much of competition in the hospital industry it has become important to ensure that those insurers who prefer this hospital stick to it. Hence the debts are being followed up but not very aggressively.”
