Karnataka IIT: Government suggests 3 names to Centre, will it be Raichur?
Belagavi: The state government has recommended three names for establishing the proposed Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) which had been sanctioned to Karnataka by the Union government, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Replying to members in the Legislative Council here on Friday, he said the government had recommended Raichur, Dharwad and Mysuru for setting up the premier institution. So far, the Union government had not taken the final decision regarding the location of the IIT. "I will be most happy if the IIT comes up in Raichur", the CM said.
Mr Siddaramaiah also said he was not aware of talks held by Higher Education and Tourism Minister R.V. Deshpande with officials of the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development. "I was not present at that meeting and I did not know what they have discussed. You should ask Mr Deshpande for details".
Senior BJP member, Mr K.B. Shanappa jokingly said recommending Raichur for establishing the IIT was ok but wondered why Dharwad and Mysuru?
