Deadline set for Polavaram project work

CM directs officials to complete Polavaram work by July 20
Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu here on Friday instructed the officials to mount pressure on agencies who are handling the Polavaram right canal earth work for early its completion. Reviewing the Polvaram canal works here at the irrigation guest house, the Chief Minister asked the officials to complete canals work by July 20 as per schedule and that the government will not allow any postponement.
The government would also take action against agencies which delay the work against the public interest, he added. He said that the government would also pay bills immediately. Mr Naidu said that the government is providing all possible support including required machinery for completion of canals earth work.
Mr Naidu directed the officials to divert water from Tatipudi lift irrigation scheme to Polavaram right canal. He said that the scheme would be implemented for the area from August and the water should be diverted to the right canal by then.
The water would be diverted from Tammileru, Ramileru and Budameru rivulets to Polavaram right canal and finally to Krishna River. He instructed the officials to take steps to preserve every drop of water for utilising for the needs of the state’s development.
Irrigation department principal secretary Adityanath Das said that they would bring special machinery from L&T company for removing rocks in Devarapalli area. He also said that the department would appoint one executive engineer-level officer for each five kilometer stretch for its early completion.
Krishna district collector A. Babu said that the farmers in the district already have received compensation from the government. He said machinery would be increased to finish the work within time limit in the district.
AP Irrigation minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, excise minister Kollu Ravindra, MP Konakalla Narayana, MLAs Gadde Rammohan, V. Vamsi Mohan and several officials were among those present.
