CEO seeks clarification from district election officer regarding violation of poll code

Reports are that outsiders had free access to restricted area in R K Nagar Assembly

Chennai: The public (elections) department has sent a communication seeking clarification from Chennai corporation commissioner and district election officer Vikram Kapur on media reports that outsiders had a free access to restricted area on the day of bypoll in R K Nagar Assembly constituency on June 27. When contacted, Chief Electoral Officer Sandeep Saxena confirmed that the letter had been sent.

“We have also asked a few media institutions to furnish the details of the alleged violation of poll code and have forwarded the same to the authorities concerned.”On the issue of re-polling in booth No.181 in the constituency, he said the returning officer and the district election officials had been asked to look into the specific complaint.

To a query on the issue of an assistant commissioner campaigning in the constituency, the CEO said based on the official note, Salem police Commissioner had issued a memo to the official. “We are waiting for the final inquiry report from the state police headquarters for further action”. When asked about allegations by the opposition DMK that the elections department failed to curtail violations in R K Nagar, Saxena said, “I am not a political person to argue over allegations,” he said.
