Three including two firemen injured in LPG blast

Police said fire broke out at one of the residences in the ground floor of a complex

Chennai: Three persons including two firemen were injured in a fire accident triggered by a LPG blast at a residential complex in old Washermanpet on late Thursday night. Police said fire broke out at one of the residences in the ground floor of a complex on Azeez Mohammed Street there. Around 12.40 am fire broke out in the house of one of the tenants, Amjid Khan (45) and fire tenders from Tondiarpet and washermanpet rushed to the scene.

Investigations revealed that a short circuit in the refrigerator wiring systems had sparked the fire.“However, the heat generated had made an unused cylinder kept besides the refrigerator expand and it burst.Firemen, Senthil Kumar (36) and Kaviyarasan (22) suffered burn injuries in the process,” K. Kumar, Divisional fire officer (DFO) told DC.

The occupant of the house, Amjid Khan escaped with minor injuries. The firemen were rescued and were moved to the Kilpauk medical college hospital for treatment. Mr Kumar said that the firemen were later shifted to a private hospital and were out of danger. “Both of them suffered 18% burn injuries on their arms,” he said. Washermanpet police have registered a case and are investigating.
