Realtor held with 17 kg deer meat, 25 kg boar meat

Coimbatore: The son-in-law of a former IFS officer has been secured by the forest department for possessing a huge quantity of deer and wild boar meet, besides illegal arms and ammunition, at his farm house in Semmedu, on city outskirts on Friday.
Acting on a tip off from an environmentalist, a team of forest department staff raided the house of Satyanathan, 48. He is the son-in-law of the late Nagaraj, who was an IFS officer. He was found to be in possession of 17 kgs of spotted dear meat, 25 kgs of wild boar mean and a dead civet cat.
“We have also seized two double barrel guns, a twelve bore rifle and an air gun, besides more than 200 bullets from him. The bullets appeared to be imported, however they should be examined further to know where they were was sourced from,” said District Forest Officer (DFO) M Senthil Kumar.
The forest department had also dug out the head of a wild boar and feathers of a wild hen, which were found buried in his farm house premises, located abutting the reserve forest area. “The accused had kept the deer and wild boar meat in deep freezer after packing them in one kg packs. He may have packed them to supply to his affluent friends, but we suspect there is no business motive,” he said.
Though the news cropped up that Satyanathan had worked as a personal assistant for former Trichy Mayor Sarubala R. Thondaiman, the DFO however did not confirm. The forest department staff, who are investigating, suspect Satyanathan to have a wider network of people in hunting down protected wild animals. “We have taken him into custody and a detailed enquiry is on to unravel his nexus,” said the official.
Satyanathan, who is into real estate and farming, had been residing at his farm house with his wife, mother-in-law and brother-in-law.
