Man killed for alleged sorcery in Guntur district
The accused managed to escape from the village
Guntur: A man murdered another person suspecting him to be a sorcerer at Tallapalli village of Macharla mandal in Guntur district on Friday. According to Macharla rural police, Mekala Mukkanti, 40, of Tallapalli village was a farmer. He went to his farmland along with wife and others for cultivation works on Friday morning.
Yerukala Nageswara Rao, along with four others came to the farmland and alleged that Mukkanti performed sorcery on his relative Yerukala Kotaiah. He demanded Mukkanti to pledge about conducting sorcery in the Myasamma temple in Mukundapuram village.
Mukkanti refused refuted the allegations. Heated arguments ensued between the two groups and angry Nageswara Rao and his supporters attacked Mukkanti with axes. The family members of Mukkanti tried to stop the attack but in vain and Mukkanti died on the spot with severe injuries.
The Macharla rural police rushed to the spot, conducted inquest and shifted the body for autopsy to Macharla government hospital. The accused managed to escape from the village and Macharla rural police launched a search to nab them by registering a case.
