A touch of the Mediterranean
The textures are usually not fine like French and English interiors
Family trips can influence the décor of your home. And if there is one style of interiors that is loved by all, it has to be the Mediterranean look. Interior designer Raajsree Ram shares a few tips on the style and how one can inculcate it at home.
Raajsree says, “It’s mostly based on the countries on the north of the Mediterranean Sea. And the popular styles are the Spanish, Greek and Turkish. A common note for all is that they are inspired from natural colours with hues of blue and green. The textures are usually not fine like French and English interiors, instead they let it stay rough. There are also big windows to let light in.”
But while they do have an overall similar theme, the Spanish and Turkish styles do differ from each other. “The Spanish style is more subtle with colours like white and just one highlight wall. The Turkish style has the entire room filled with colours. When it comes to light fixtures, they are colourful and are made of stained glass,” he says. The Greek style is more about sculptures with white and gold ornate work.
And for your home, Raajsree has a few tips. “This style is more seen in farmhouses. In homes, it’s seen in verandahs or sit-outs, with the backdrop of a bright colour,” he says.
