Swara Bhaskar’s fine, but her cat’s gone into depression

Actors suffering from depression is nothing new. But what happens when their furry companions go through the same? Ask Swara Bhaskar, whose cat Atom was recently diagnosed with depression.

“He was looking glum and was mewing a lot and not eating well. Initially the vet found nothing wrong. But later when I told him more about Atom’s behaviour, he diagnosed him to be suffering from anxiety and depression. I was totally stumped,” says Swara. She adds that the vet suggested that the cat be put on anti-depressants.

Swara tried to divert Atom’s mind with cat games and then went to the extent of buying a cat house from the Netherlands for him. All this because she didn’t want to put her cat on anti-depressants. “So on a friend’s recommendation, I bought this innovative cat-house called the Krabhuis from a Dutch website. Even though the shipping charges exceeded the cost of the product, I went for it,” she says. Turns out Atom has liked it. “My friends said I was crazy,” Swara says.
