Youths to become agents of change at Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode
KOZHIKODE: The district collector’s internship programme (DCIP), a new project, a brainchild of Kozhikode district collector N Prasanth, took to a start at Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) on Thursday.
The project aims at providing a chance for the talented young students to work with the government and chip in a share of their vibrancy into the sector they chose to serve.
In total, 35 candidates drawn from various parts of the nation including Gujarat, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, are participating in the two-month programme.
There are students from Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA) and those from IITs among the candidates.
Two young physically challenged women, Baby Fathima and Fathima Asla, who conquered the limitations of body to inspire many other people, inaugurated the event.
Addressing the candidates, Mr Prasanth said that the chosen students would be agents of change in the respective fields.
“Compassion is the key of the project and with compassion these youngsters will enter into the system of governance, taking the challenge would make a change,” he said.
“The focus would be on improving the living conditions of the poor, the voiceless living in orphanages, old-age homes, mental hospitals and those unreached sections”.
He also said that the selection process for the second batch is already in the offing. The impact of many projects launched by the collector, including Operation Sulaimani, Compassionate Kozhikode, social media interventions and the e-governance project, would also be part of the DCIP.
IIMK faculty member Dr Saji Gopinath, Pain and Palliative Movement pioneer Dr K. Suresh Kumar and district judge R. L. Baiju are among other mentors of the batch.
Experts from prominent institutions from across the nation would fly down to Kozhikode to chip in their share of expertise to the team in the coming days.
