View on setting up private universities sought in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala state higher education council has sought public opinion on the possibility of establishing private universities in the state.
Those who are interested in responding have been asked to do so by clicking on ‘Establishment of Private Universities (Questionnaire)’ on the website http://www.kshec.kerala.gov.in
The council had earlier set up a committee to study the feasibility of setting up private universities in the state with former MG University VC Syriac Thomas as the chairman.
A questionnaire about establishment of private universities in Kerala was conceived as per the recommendation of the committee.
The questions in the questionnaire include — do you feel that there is a need to establish private universities in the state?, if yes, will it effectively serve to improve the quality level of higher education in the State?, if private universities are established, which are the academic programmes to be offered?
The questionnaire has also sought the opinion of the public on the suitable model for private universities in the state. They have been asked to respond to the question whether the private universities should be sponsored by corporates, registered trusts, societies, companies or others.
The public has been asked to give their general comments and suggestions on this subject in a brief note.
