Mission Kochi a role model for civic bodies
Kochi: The Kochi Corporation which has been sitting on several projects for the last four years could finally realise some of the long-drawn schemes through the Mission Kochi 15-08-15 programme.
Of the 33 projects prioritised by the civic administration, it could either complete or initiate more than 60 per cent of them, which is a big achievement, according to civic experts.
“Though many projects have been announced in annual budgets, most of them couldn’t be completed due to lack of funding and procedural delays. However, when the projects have been fast-tracked, more than 60 per cent of them could be either completed or initiated,” said a top civic administrator.
Some of the prestigious projects, including animal birth control, Ernakulam town hall renovation, solar city, city beautification, septage treatment plant and e-governance programme, have been either implemented or taken forward.
“If these projects had not been fast-tracked, none of them could have been implemented in such a short period of 10 months,” the official added.
Meanwhile, opposition leader in the council K.J. Jacob alleged that except for the town hall renovation and ABC programme, nothing else could be implemented.
“Priority should be given to launch projects for solid and sewage waste management. The groundwater in the city is highly polluted due to poor waste management,” he said.
