Madras High Court orders notice on recruiting 157 sericulture junior inspectors
Chennai: The Madras High court has ordered notice to the government on a petition seeking an interim injunction restraining the authorities from recruiting 157 junior inspectors of sericulture. The petitioner M. Pichiayah of Chokkampatti village, Tirunelveli district submitted that he was appointed as a daily wageworker in Sericulture department in June 1987. After completion of 10-years, his service was regularised in the office of director, Sericulture department, Salem.
Having served for about 30 years in the department, he was qualified for appointment as junior inspector. However, the petitioner said that without considering his candidature the director sought to make appointment through direct recruitment. When Pichiayah and few others challenged it in the High Court, the latter passed an interim order in October 2014 restraining the director from making any selection.
But the department issued a corrigendum notification on May 16, 2015 seeking to fill 157 posts of junior inspectors of sericulture. Aggrieved at this, Pichiayah filed this petition. When it came up for
hearing, Justice D.Hariparanthaman said there will be an order of interim injunction and ordered notice to the authorities.
